The Tell Siran bottle inscription (c. 600 BCE; from Amman) and Ammonite personal names with theophoric Milkom elements (*mlkm, *mlky) confirm the deity's prominence in the Ammonite royal cult. The identification of Milkom with Molech (the deity associated with child sacrifice in Leviticus 18:21 etc.) is debated; most contemporary scholars treat them as distinct, though both derive from *mlk.
