The Greek Adonis myth — the beautiful youth loved by Aphrodite, killed by a boar, mourned annually, descending to and returning from the underworld — reproduces the Dumuzi/Inanna narrative structure. Lucian (De Syria Dea 6-9) describes the Byblos rites as a transmission from "Osiris" via Phoenicia.
